MENDELU students can apply for research mobility in Zambia focused on the broad topic of People, Society and Environment. The mobility offers an opportunity to develop your own research project, conduct fieldwork and collect original data that can contribute to a bachelor’s project or master’s thesis. Applications are open until 4 October 2026.

The research focus is intentionally broad, allowing students from different disciplines to take part. Possible topics include sustainable agriculture, development initiatives, women’s rights, sustainable tourism and the complex relationships between people, communities and their natural environment.

What can you work on?

Students will develop their own research project related to the theme People, Society and Environment. The mobility is designed to provide practical experience with research in the Zambian context and support students in collecting and analysing original field data.

Selected students will receive training and conduct data collection and analysis under the supervision of MENDELU academics.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted through the Contact Centre in UIS by 4 October 2026.

1. CV in English – maximum one page.
2. Motivation letter in English – including your intended research idea, proposed methodology and expected outcomes.

Before submitting your application, you are encouraged to consult your proposal with Martin Schmiedl, Ph.D. or Jiří Schneider, Ph.D., who will be responsible for the mobility.

Longlisted applicants will be invited for an interview.

Preparatory meetings: late October / early November 2026

Mobility: from the second half of November until the first half of December 2026

Conditions for selected participants

Selected students will receive:

• flight tickets and a CZK 20,000 scholarship,
• training and supervision during data collection and analysis,
• the opportunity to present their research outcomes for 1 ECTS as part of an optional course at FRRMS.
