Practice makes perfect

For students of some programs practical training in company is compulsory. You can find company in the Czech Republic or you can go abroad. For internships abroad, please check our website or contact Ing. Kateřina Mlejnková at katerina.mlejnkova@mendelu.cz.

Specialized practical experience in newly accredited study programs (bachelor and master)

The Faculty of Business and Economics has accredited not only academic study programs but also professionally oriented ones. Some of the new study programs do not require specialized practical experience (it is optional), some require one specialized practical experience session while professionally oriented study programs require two specialized practical experience sessions.

In the semester in which the student wishes to undertake specialized practical experience, they register and then enroll in the relevant practical experience course.

There are two ways how to manage practical training in UIS:

  • in the Student’s Portal → Job Opportunities Portal (for non-paid training/internships)
  • in the Contact Center → request 038 for recognition of practical training (for paid jobs)

In case of questions about the consistency of the practical experience and the focus of the study program, the student can contact the study program supervisor.

If the company is not registered, it needs to be registered in the UIS Job Portal. UIS (without login) → Job Portal (at the bottom of the page) → Company registration in the job portal.

Attention: if a student is already working at a foreign company (i.e. outside the Czech Republic), the recognition takes place at the Study department – Practical training. Student planning the internship in advance (at least a month, using the Erasmus+ programme etc.), please contact the international relations office.
More information at Erasmus+internships (within EU), Bilateral Agreements (outside EU).

After filling in the data (the basic data can be retrieved from the ARES system; it is necessary to fill in the contact person’s data and enter the password that the contact person will use to log into the UIS), the company chooses the faculty (or faculties) from which it wants to recruit students for practical experience.

After registration, the contact person of the company has to confirm the registration of the company (the contact person will receive the confirmation on the contact e-mail specified in the registration). After confirmation, the company will be approved by the faculty practical experience administrator. With the approval of the company, it is possible to make offers of practical experience in UIS (after logging into UIS).

The company manages its practical experience in UIS after logging in to the Job Portal section. A company can add a new practical experience offer to the system under the link Offered practical experience. For a new practical experience offer, the company specifies the validity of the offer “until” and gives an indicative start date. In the number of applicants for the practical experience offer, the company indicates the maximum number of students who can apply for the practical experience offer. In the case of a start date, it is advisable to leave sufficient time for all necessary administrative steps before the start of the practical experience (allow at least two to three weeks). The length of the practical experience does not need to be specified (it is individual according to the student’s study program).

After the practical experience offer has been published, students can already apply for it, from which the company can select the most suitable candidate for the practical experience (under the arrow in the Applicants column). Unsuitable applicants will be rejected by the company’s contact person.

By approving the practical experience candidate, the company will be offered the opportunity to print the practical experience contract. Before printing the contract, the company will enter the corresponding start and end dates of the student’s practical experience. Please note: the duration of the practical experience must be sufficient to meet the required number of hours, which varies between degree programs from 150 to 400 hours of practical experience. The company prints the contract in triplicate and signs it for its side. These copies will be handed over to the student, who will deliver all three copies of the contract signed by the company and the student to the practical experience agenda at the Faculty’s study department. After the contract is signed by the Dean of the Faculty, the student will be asked to accept two copies of the contracts signed by all parties. One copy is for the student and one copy is to be given to the company by the student.

At the end of the student’s practical experience, the contact person fills in the questionnaire for the evaluation of the student’s practical experience (Practical experience carried out and Practical experience evaluation) and confirms the student’s work diary, where the hours worked by the student during the practical experience are listed. After completing the Practical experience evaluation, the company will terminate the practical experience as successfully completed, or unsuccessfully completed if the conditions of the practical experience were not met (typically failure to meet the length of the practical experience).

There are two ways for a student to apply for practical experience. Either they can choose from the range of practical experience offered (Student’s Portal → Job Portal → student selects an offer and confirms “Submit practical experience application”) or they can ask their arranged company to register in the practical experience portal if they do not see it or the position on offer. After applying for a practical experience offer, the company will approve it and reject other students.

In addition, the student can create their own UIS internship request focused on a specific specialized area and region (under the Settings).

Students can also set up and fill in their CV via the Settings in the Job Portal if they want to attract a company from the offer, or increase the likelihood of being selected by companies already registered in the Job Portal.

Before the start of the practical experience, it is necessary to ensure that the practical experience contract is drawn up in triplicate (a printout of the contract is offered to the company). During the practical experience, the student shall keep a work diary (download here). For proper completion of the practical experience, the company must complete the Student practical experience evaluation and successfully complete the practical experience in UIS. The student can only complete their evaluation after the company has successfully completed the practical experience. The student receives credit by submitting a company-confirmed work diary and completing a practical experience evaluation in UIS.

Each practical experience must be registered in the UIS Job Portal.

Before the start of the practical experience, the student must be confirmed by the company and a specialized practical experience agreement must be concluded (generated automatically by UIS in the Job Portal from the company’s perspective), unless the faculty has a framework practical experience agreement with the company (information provided by the practical experience officer). If the student is employed by the company, the contract for the provision of specialized practical experience can be replaced by a certified copy of the employment contract, work performance agreement or work activity agreement, which specifies the scope of the work activity performed (term from to and number of hours).

During the practical experience, the student fills out a work diary and makes sure to complete the required number of practical experience hours. After the end of the practical experience, the student submits the work diary to the Dean’s Office of the Faculty at the practical experience agenda during office hours. Work diary download here.

At the end of the practical experience, the company representative and subsequently the student fill in the Practical experience evaluation form (to be completed in the UIS for the relevant practical experience; note: the student cannot enter the evaluation until the practical experience evaluation has been completed by the company and the practical experience has been concluded as successfully completed). The student completes the questionnaire in the UIS Job Portal.

Upon proper completion of the administrative process, the student will be awarded credit for the relevant specialized practical experience course.

Further information regarding the specialized practical experience and its obligations can be found in the student’s study plan in UIS. Details regarding the prerequisites for fulfilling the practical experience (scope, specialization) can be found in the syllabus of the course related to the specialized practical experience. In case of questions, the practical experience officers or the study program sponsor (in case of specialized questions) can be contacted.

Do you already work somewhere, and do you have an employment contract?

In the case you already work, and you have an employment contract you can request a recognition of the internship based on an employment contract you have. However, your employment must fulfil:

  • required worked off hour range of the practical training in your programme (you can find in the syllabus of the practical training) and
  • compliance with the graduate’s profile of your study programme.

If your employment fulfils above mentioned requirements, you can request recognition of the practical training.

Fill the request 038_Z in the Contact Centre in UIS. Do not forget to attach the scan of documents mentioned bellow:

  • the employment contract you have with the firm (preferably with anonymised wage rate)

Subsequently, it is necessary to deliver these documents in paper form, i.e.:

  1. a certified copy (stamp + signature of the employer or officially certified) of the employment contract
  2. original Employer’s confirmation of completion of professional practice,
  3. printed and signed Application 038_Z for recognition of professional experience.

Attention: Do not forget to submit the originals of the documents and printed and signed request 038 to the Study Department of the faculty – internship section within 7 days.

  • In the case of a self-employed person/entrepreneur of a business company, it is necessary to provide his/her own Confirmation of Professional Experience Acquisition, confirmation that the activity is active (delivery of proof of receipt by the relevant tax office of the receipt of DP for the last tax period, or tax return), and sufficient for the recognition of professional experience (current extract from the trade/commercial register, copy of the trade certificate), or a certified copy of the employment contract (for the performance of the executive, etc.).

You can find the request: Personal administration → Student’s portal → Contact Centre → Searching for solution → 038_Z: Request for recognition of the internship based on an employment contract.

Further information regarding the specialized practical experience and its obligations can be found in the student’s study plan in UIS. Details regarding the prerequisites for fulfilling the practical experience (scope, specialization) can be found in the syllabus of the course related to the specialized practical experience.
