Each year Professor Sojka Award and Tomáš Kotrba Award are given by the dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics of Mendel University in Brno.

The awarded scientific achievement is in particular:

  • publication of a monograph or monographic chapter;
  • publication of a scientific paper in a journal with an impact factor;
  • another extraordinary result that can be entered in the Register of Information on Results;
  • a set of the above outputs.

The result must be presented as a result achieved at the faculty. The awards ceremony usually takes place during the plenary session of the annual conference Economic Competitiveness and Sustainability (ECOS).

In the previous years Professor Sojka Award was given to:
prof. Milan Sojka, CSc.

23rd March 1951 – 17th May 2009

Professor Milan Sojka was a well-known and widely respected Czech economist. He worked as the professor and researcher in Economics. As a head of Institute of Economic Studies at Charles University in Prague and also as a head of Department of Economics at Mendel University in Brno he educated and nurtured many of today’s economists in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and other countries. He is considered as the leading author in the field of History of Economic Thoughts in the Czech Republic. He published numerous books, monographs, scientific papers and studies. We will remember him as an excellent economist but especially as a good man.

Ing. Tomáš Kotrba, Ph.D.

12th October 1980 – 29th September 2011

Dr. Tomáš Kotrba worked as a lecturer and researcher at the Department of Management at the Faculty of Business and Economics, Mendel University in Brno. As a lecturer he was also popular at the College of Economics in Znojmo and other schools. As a talented researcher and author he published numerous scientific papers and studies. Despite his young age he was already an author of numerous books and monographs focusing mainly on modern education strategies and methods. His books are highly respected and popular among university as well as secondary school teachers. His career came to a sudden and unexpected end when he died tragically at the accident while building the offshore university campus in Nicaragua. We will never forget him.
