New Admission Requirements
The admission process for the 2027/2028 academic year opens on 15 October 2026, with updated admission requirements for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes taught in English.
What has changed?
- An application fee of 1,000 CZK per application.
- A compulsory motivation letter in English.
- Updated entrance examination requirements, including the option to take a SCIO exam – GAP for Bachelor applicants (mini version is enough)
- Online interviews for selected applicants.
- New entrance examination dates and application deadlines.
Your admission journey
Phase 1: Apply & Complete the entrance exam
First, complete your online application, upload your motivation letter, and pay the 1000 CZK application fee before submitting. Next, you need to pass an entrance exam (university entrance exam or the SCIO exam – GAP test (General Academic Prerequisites), mini version is enough. Your motivation letter will also be evaluated as part of the admission process. Some applicants may also be invited to an individual online interview.
Once you successfully complete the entrance examination requirements, you can move on to Phase 2. Each student is responsible for finding what visa conditions apply in their country and considering the time length required for the whole admission process (standard lenght is about 1 year).
Bachelor applicants
To meet the admission requirements for a Bachelor’s degree programme, you must complete the following:
- Entrance examination or SCIO exam
Choose one of these options:
- University entrance examination: Score at least 60 out of 100 points.
- SCIO exam: Pass the required SCIO exam- GAP (General Academic Prerequisites). A successful SCIO result gives you 100 points towards your admission assessment. Applicants must score at least 60% in SCIO.
We strongly recommend taking the SCIO test instead of waiting for the university entrance examination. It offers more flexibility and may help you complete the admission process sooner.
- Motivation letter
Upload a motivation letter in English as part of your online application.
- Maximum length: 4,000 characters, including spaces.
- Format: PDF.
- Minimum required score: 60 out of 100 points.
- Individual online interview (selected applicants only)
Some applicants might be invited to an individual online interview. If selected, you will receive instructions by email.
Minimum admission score
You must achieve at least 120 points in total from the entrance examination (or SCIO test) and motivation letter, with a minimum of 60 points in each component.
Scoring below 60 points in either component means that you do not meet the admission requirements, even if your combined score is 120 points or higher.
Master applicants
To meet the admission requirements for a Master’s degree programme, you must complete the following:
- University entrance examination
Take the online entrance examination for your chosen programme.
- Maximum score: 100 points.
- Minimum required score: 60 points.
- Motivation letter
Upload a motivation letter in English as part of your online application.
- Maximum length: 4,000 characters, including spaces.
- Format: PDF.
- Minimum required score: 60 out of 100 points.
- Individual online interview (selected applicants only)
Some applicants might be invited to an individual online interview. If selected, you will receive instructions by email.
Minimum admission score
You must achieve at least 120 points in total from the entrance examination and motivation letter, with a minimum of 60 points in each component.
Scoring below 60 points in either component means that you do not meet the admission requirements.
Please note: The SCIO exam option is not available for Master’s applicants.
PhD applicants
Admission to study is governed by the Conditions for Admission to Study in Doctoral Degree Programmes at the Faculty of Business and Economics. The application for admission to study must be submitted by 31 May. The entrance examination will take place in June. The exact date of the entrance examination will be communicated to the applicant in the invitation letter. The entrance examination is based on a professional discussion in English of the dissertation plan prepared in advance. The professional debate verifies the student’s aptitude for independent scientific, creative and research activities and possible publication results and language aptitude. The admissions committee considers the recommendations of the potential supervisor. The maximum number of students admitted is determined by the capacity of the potential supervisors and the department.
PhD students will be asked afterwards to fill Intent of the dissertation, CV and Motivation letter.
Important
- We will respond to every email as soon as possible. Please do not send reminders, they will cause prolonged replies from IRO and might be recognised as spam by the email provider. Emails are being answered one by one.
- Every applicant is responsible for providing us with correct details such as email address, passport number or phone number. In case of a change, he/she must inform IRO.
- Applicant must pay attention to the validity of his/her admission documents. The university is responsible only for the issuance of admission documents, not for their validity.
- The exact date and time of the university entrance examination will be sent to you by email.
- All examination times follow Czech local time (CET/CEST).
- The application portal is closed in July and August
- Bachelor’s applicants can still take SCIO exam during these months.
- Check your email regularly, including your spam folder, to make sure you do not miss important information.
University entrance exams take place online five times a year. Applications for each examination period must be submitted by the deadline shown below.

Taking the SCIO exam – GAP test instead?
SCIO has its own exam dates and registration deadlines. You can take the GAP test (General Academic Prerequisites) before submitting your university application. Check the available dates on the SCIO website.
- Choose your study programme
- Make sure you select the correct English-taught programme: the code must end with the letter “A”.
- Bachelor’s Economics and Management: B-EAMA
- Master’s Economics and Management: C-EAMA
- Master’s Open Informatics: C-OIA

- Complete your personal details
- All information must be provided in the correct form as stated in your passport (or other documents), otherwise mistakes will appear on your admission documents.
- Enter your full name
- Fill in your permanent address and all required fields, not your contact address. If you do not have a postal code, enter a dash (-).
- Upload the required documents
Upload your previous education documents (high school diploma, bachelor’s or master’s degree) and your motivation letter in English (PDF). Please ignore yellow and red exclamation marks, it is a system error.
- Submit your application
- Check that all information is correct and click Submit.
- The admissions office cannot fill out your application or make changes to it on your behalf.
- Remember to click Submit. Saving your application is not the same as submitting it.
- Save the login details (username and password) sent to your email. You will need them to access your application
- Pay the application fee
The application is valid after you pay the fee and upload all necessary documents (motivation letter and previous education documents).

An application fee of 1,000 CZK per application is payable before submitting and applies under the new admission conditions and is separate from the tuition fee. You can pay the application fee using the payment methods offered in the application portal.
Recommended payment methods

These payments are usually processed within a few days. Bank transfers and QR code payments are also possible but may take considerably longer.
Important: The university must receive the full amount of 1,000 CZK. Make sure that bank fees or currency conversion charges do not reduce the amount received. If the full amount is not received, your application may be canceled.
As part of your application, you must submit a motivation letter in English (maximum 4,000 characters, including spaces). The letter should explain why you want to study your chosen programme and your academic and professional ambitions. our motivation letter is a story you want to tell the university you are applying to.
In your letter, focus on:
- motivation: Why did you choose this programme? What interests you most about it?
- background: Describe your education, skills, interests and relevant experience.
- achievements: Mention academic achievements, competitions, projects or work experience. You can upload supporting documents as optional attachments.
- future goals: Explain how this programme will help you develop your skills and achieve your career goals.
- achievements: Provide concrete evidence of your achievements in your studies to date, in relevant academic competitions and through practical or professional experience.
Important: Use of Artificial Intelligence
Your motivation letter must be your own work. The use of artificial intelligence tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, or similar systems) for generating text, revising its language or grammar, paraphrasing, translating, or making any other substantive modifications is not permitted. The admissions committee evaluates not only the content of the letter but also the applicant’s ability to independently express their thoughts in English.
Remember: Upload your motivation letter as a PDF before submitting your online application.
The entrance exam requirements depend on your study programme.
- Bachelor applicants: You can choose the university entrance exam or the SCIO GAP test in English (mini version is enough).
- Master applicants: You must take the university entrance exam.
University entrance exam
Before the university entrance exam, you must attend an online meeting to verify your identity.
- Bachelor’s Economics and Management
- Study prerequisites test: a general knowledge test with 25 questions, only one answer is correct.
- Master applicants: 25 abcd questions with only one correct choice.
- Economics and Management requires the entrance test from Economics and Management
- Open Informatics requires the entrance test from Informatics
- PhD applicants
- Student is required to submit the Thesis Proposal and find a supervisor for the thesis. More information will be provided by the IRO or by your agent.
University entrance exam
Use your individual access code to access your entrance test at the time that was set for your entrance exam. In case of any trouble or the need to change the date, please contact admission.pef@mendelu.cz. Do not forget to include the program you are applying for.
Please note, that we put emphasis on increasing the quality of our applicants. Therefore, the management of the faculty has worked on the review of the entrance exams requirements. The minimum score for Bachelor’s Economics and Management is 60 points out of 100 points.
Entrance exam results are valid for two years. This means that from the time you successfully pass the exam, you have two years to complete the admission process (get the nostrification done and apply for the visa). In case of failing the exam, the exam can be repeated after 3 months.

SCIO exam – GAP test
If you are applying for a Bachelor’s degree programme, you can take the SCIO exam – GAP Test (General Academic Prerequisites) in English instead of the university entrance exam. We recommend this option because it offers more flexibility.
Why Choose SCIO GAP?
- SCIO offers several test dates throughout the year.
- You can take the test before submitting your university application.
- You can take the test more than once. Your best result will be considered.
- SCIO results are valid for three years under the new admission conditions.
- Results from SCIO are accepted by all Czech Universities.
- A successful SCIO GAP test gives you 100 points towards your admission assessment.
After passing the required SCIO GAP test, open the Contact Centre in your university application portal. Submit a request for an exemption from the university entrance exam based on your SCIO GAP result.
Important: If you have already passed the required SCIO exam GAP test and receive an invitation to the university entrance exam, you do not need to attend the university exam.
This step is only for applicants taking the university entrance exam. Before your exam, you must verify your identity in an online meeting via Zoom. You will receive an email with the meeting date, time and joining instructions. During the meeting, you will be asked to show your identification document.
What do you need?
- A valid passport or national ID card with your photograph.
- A device with a working camera.
- An internet connection.
Important:
You will receive only one appointment for identity verification and one appointment for the university entrance exam. You must attend both at the assigned times. If you miss either appointment, you will fail to meet the entrance exam requirements. Alternative appointments cannot be arranged.
How to join the ZOOM meeting
Although Zoom can be used through a web browser, we strongly recommend installing the Zoom Workplace application on your computer or mobile device:

At the appointed time, the applicant should join the meeting and wait in the “waiting room” until the study administrator admits them. Once admitted, the applicant must present a passport or another official photo ID on camera.
Some applicants might be invited to an individual online interview after passing the university entrance exam. Students will receive an email with online interview instructions. Each student will receive only one online interview appointment, and failing to appear will result in not meeting the exam criteria and failing the entrance exam.
- Each student is responsible for finding what visa conditions apply in their country and considering the time length required for the whole admission process (standard lenght is about 1 year).
- Once you finish the online entrance exam it may take about 3 weeks before you receive notification about passing/failing the exam
- All emails asking for test results or further steps are going to be considered with the lowest priority.
- If you pass the test organized by SCIO, you need to submit a request in the contact centre (part of the application portal) for an exception from the rule to carry out the admission exam
- You are not applying for the semester mentioned in the application form. The semester depends on other factors, such as payment, nostrification, visa etc.
- If you already passed the entrance exam under SCIO and receive invitation email for the entrance exam organised by the university, please ignore this email.
Phase 2: Complete your admission & Get your documents
Passing the entrance examination is not the final step of the admission process.
Before FBE MENDELU can issue your admission documents, you must complete the recognition of your previous education (nostrification), sign your study contract, and pay 80,000 CZK tuition fee. Once you complete these requirements, the university can prepare and issue your admission documents. This may take up to two months after you pay the tuition fee.
Obtaining a certificate of recognition of previous education. You can start the nostrification process at any time (even before exam results). Please see the section Nostrification for more detailed information.
Signing study contract and paying tuition fees. Please see the current tuition fees in the table “Tuition fees & Costs” below. You will be asked to pay an accommodation deposit, in case you want to use the dormitories of our university. Please note the payment for the accommodation must be done to the account of the accommodation office.
Due to the overbooked capacity at the embassy for visa interviews, check the conditions for your country.
- Application fee: 1,000 CZK (for study programmes in both Czech and English)
- Tuition fee: 80,000 CZK
- Nostrification fee: 900 CZK
- DHL costs – if applicable, you will be asked to pay the DHL costs after you arrive in Brno
- Accommodation deposit – 5,000 CZK, fully refundable in case your visa is declined or you decide to cancel your admission before applying for a visa. We will ask you to pay it together with the tuition fee. Website of the accommodation can be found here.

How to make the payment?
School fees, nostrification and accommodation deposit ONLY – not for the payment of the application fee
- Payment Info – click here and enter your payment amount in Czech Crowns (80,000 CZK) in the line that says Tuition Fee. Choose your country of origin in the Flywire form.
- Payment method – select your preferred payment method to complete your payment in your home currency. For debit/credit card payments, enter your card details online to complete your payment in your home currency. For bank transfers, follow the instructions provided to send your funds. Depending on your bank, payment may be made online, in person, or over the phone.
Note: Additional local payment options may be available depending on the country you are paying from.
- Payer Info – enter some basic information to initiate your payment booking.
- Info for the receiver – enter only your name, surname, and email and as the Program name write the name of the study program you are applying for and if it is a bachelor or master study program.
- Review & Confirm payment information.

After the payment you will receive from us the admission letter, study confirmation, payment confirmation and after payment of the accommodation deposit, we will get for you accommodation contract. Please note, the accommodation deposit has to be sent to the account of the accommodation office. Details are shared with applicants while paying. You might also receive from us the hard copy of your nostrification certificate (in case you did this with our assistance). We do not send any soft copies (scans) of any documents.
Admission documents for September intake are issued if the payment is done by 10th May or 10th June (Please check the step Study contract) and for February intake by 31st October or 30th November. (Please check the step Study contract).
As a full-time student, you should apply for a long-term residence permit (for the purpose of studies). The visa application should cost you 2 500 CZK. Here you can check the general requirements for visa applicants from the Ministry of Interior.
How long does it take?
Once you submit the visa application at the Czech Embassy it might take up to 3 months before your visa is issued. Some of the embassies might invite you for a second interview, which will prolong the time of visa issuance.
What documents will you get from us
For the visa application, you will receive from us the following documents:
- the accommodation contract,
- admission letter,
- confirmation of your studies (with the study program and dates),
- payment confirmation (proof that you have paid the first year tuition fees) – this document is not required so sometimes we just send it scanned in an email,
- hard copy of the nostrification certificate (in case we assisted with that).
Preparation for the interview
Make sure you have ALL the documents prepared based on the embassy’s requirements (admission documents, police clearance, correct valid passport, bank statement, etc.). Pay attention to the requirements such as passport validity, translation of the documents, correct stamps and validity of all your documents. Pay attention to the validity of your admission documents, too. We are responsible only for issuance of the admission documents, not for the validity. Any document submitted to the embassy cannot be older than 6 months.

Travel health insurance
All incoming degree students must arrange travel health insurance with VZP cooperating with Mendel University. Both companies have the COVID-19-related situations already covered in the complex travel health insurance. This insurance is usually required once your visa is approved and you are about to get the visa confirmation in your passport/etc. In some countries you will need to have travel health insurance while submitting the admission documents for visa, see the information at the embassy in your country. Booking an appointment via Regime student
Booking an appointment for the visa interview can be quite a challenge in some countries. The appointments at the embassy cannot be booked by a third party, except for Regime student. Please check whether your country is on the list of the Ministry.
What is the Regime student?
It is a program allowing you to get visa appointment date without the need to book it yourself if you meet the requirements of the ministry. Please note this regime student is applicable only for those, who finish the whole admission process. (entrance exams, nostrification, first-year tuition fee and accommodation deposit payment)
If your name is on the list it might enable you to get the appointment without the need to book it yourself, however, it is not a guarantee that you will be chosen.
Please note with the participation at the regime student you are agreeing your personal data such as full name, date of birth, passport number and phone number are shared with the respective offices at the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Interior Affairs and Ministry of International Affairs.
How does it work?
The university sends every month to the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic a list of students who are admitted to the studies and who already have their nostrification certificates. The Ministry then chooses some of the students who will get the appointment, without the need to book it through the booking system. The university is not able to prioritize any students for selection and has no say in the selection process. Every month we have no more than 10 candidates out of about 20-30 chosen.
Once the Ministry of Education chooses you and you are called by the embassy you have only one chance. If the embassy turns you down because you did not have your documents ready we cannot put you on the list again and you have to get the appointment by yourself.
So we still advise the students to try to book the appointments themselves, because it cannot be guaranteed that you will be chosen by the Ministry.
How to be nominated?
Since 1st December 2023, Ministry of Education has implemented new rules for nomination. Nominees must fulfil all the following conditions:
- Entrance exams
- organized by the university you are applying to
- Ability to study in English – you must have any of the following evidences
- a) English language certificate (English FCE certificate (grade B, C), BEC Vantage (grade B, C), BULATS score 60-74, CLB/CELPIP 6-7, CAEL 60, IELTS levels 5-6, TOEFL 87-109.)
- b) Medium of Instruction in English or English proficiency letter
- c) Transcript of records with a proven medium of instruction on it (on the transcript of records is written your study was held in English) If you don’t obtain one of the above mentioned, the faculty might organize English exam for you after finishing the admission process (entrance exams, nostrification, tuition fee payment, accommodation deposit payment)
- Study gap less than 3 years
- You can be nominated only if you have less than 3 years from graduation. (The last school you studied).
If a student doesn’t fulfill all the conditions of the regime student, he/she cannot be nominated and need to book the appointment by himself/herself.
Visa rejection
If your visa is declined, you have three options:
- appeal against the refusal.
- let the appeal time pass and apply again
