Statement on the Russian invasion of Ukraine

25. 2. 2022
The management of Mendel University in Brno strongly condemns Russia's unprecedented military aggression against a sovereign state like Ukraine. Such serious violation of international law is a purposive and elaborated act of war.
What Ukraine is facing today is very reminiscent of the historical experience that pre-war Czechoslovakia had at the hands of Hitler’s Germany in 1938, and it is also reminiscent of the aggression in 1968. That is why it is our duty to stand fully behind Ukraine today, especially as many Ukrainians are our neighbours and fellow citizens. Every independent state has the right to decide democratically on its future and its direction. The management of Mendel University in Brno supports the Czech political representation in actively participating in a swift and decisive Europe-wide response to Russia’s aggressive actions. Europe must be united in its action. MENDELU is ready to accept Ukrainian students and academics within its capabilities. The university’s management will discuss possible further assistance. Robert Plaga Rector of MENDELU All students and staff can contact the MENDELU Counselling and Career Centre with questions or requests for assistance – for further information please visit the facebook page.
